Marceline Moreau
Name: Marceline Ivy Moreau Nickname: Mania Gender: ♀ Birthday and age: 22nd May early mid-19th c. / 23 years Homeplace: Venice, Italy |
Marceline's most prevalent features are her red hair, skinny body and the aura of energy around her.
Her hair is not only red, but also wavy and unruly, the hair texture like that of a horse's mane and thickness like that of a lion's. She likes to keep it on a messy bun decorated by fabric flowers, pearls, feathers, feathers, feathers, pins and hair needles.
Her eyes are green-blue in colour, her eyelashes so very pale they look almost inexistant unless he paints them. Her face is covered in freckles, with one even on her lip.
Marceline's body is visibly skinny, not too different from her sister's, and alike Melisande, Marceline also tight laces, but not quite as tightly as her sister does - Marceline simply wants her body to appear to have some curves, since without a corset her body looks rather boyish with her almost flat chest and not-very-feminine hips.
She has a habit of pacing - it seems like she has actual trouble to stay still. She seems to talk all the time, and when she is not talking, she appears absent-minded. It might be hard to get her to concentrate on her surroundings, and when her thought processes are disturbed, she easily gets irritated. However, her attention span appears to be very short; she is definitely not unforgiving, but in stead, she seems to forget whatever quarrel there was in the blink of an eye.
Talking about eyes, Marceline could be considered either eye candy or acid: she dresses extravagantly, with deep cleavages, short sleeves and bold floral patterns and stripes, sometimes with both patterns appearing in the same dress. The dresses are oftentimes decorated with ornamental embroideries.
Bright, sometimes clashing colours build up her wardrobe. Pink and yellow, bright greens, reds and oranges are the most prevalent of the colours of her clothes, but an occasional patch of other bright and less bright colours are bound to pop up once in a while.
Considering the state of her arms short sleeves might not be the greatest idea; her arms have been cut so much the texture of her skin has changed. Marceline, however, does not appear to be shameful of this. It rather seems she does not care.
Quite frankly, it is not rare to find Marceline threading needles into her skin, in fact, she has a silver thread sewn into her right arm, sometimes visible when she wears dresses with very short sleeves.
When around Mania, one had better keep an eye on their pockets, since the young woman has a bad habit (or more of a compulsion) of stealing things, and has, in fact, got rather good at it.

On some level, Marceline is actually quite detached. Her emotions do run deep, and she shows them strongly on the outside, but she has a hard time on forming any kind of attachments to people.
She could easily be described as selfish, and that would hit the end of the nail. Marceline truly thinks only about herself, and most of the time only does things if she can somehow benefit from them. She plays with people and their feelings cruelly to gain amusement, even her sister, who truly is the only person she loves (and hates) unconditionally. Her feelings about Melisande are rather mixed. She cares about her sister, but still, she plays her as best as she can to gain amusement. However, she would not want her twin to end up in serious trouble or anything; in fact, usually she does also think about making her sister live a little while getting her into the weirdest situations.
Marceline's thoughts flit through her head in a pace totally incomprehensible to most other people. Sometimes this causes her to get preoccupied with her thoughts, and when her thought processes are disturbed, she has a habit of snapping at the people distracting her. Most of the time she is on a rather good mood, however. Not many things faze her, in fact, she does not really care about whatever is going on around her in the world, because seeing herself as a part of the world is hard for her.
Partially because of this (partially due to her ridiculously high self-esteem), she takes idiotic risks and honestly thinks that there won't be consequences, and even if there will be, they will be minimal.
Marceline is highly impulsive, and has a very short attention span, her mind flitting from one thing to another similarly to one of a five-year-old child with ADHD.
However, she is also very stubborn when she really wants or does not want something, and is ready to go to ridiculous lengths to get her will without much considering the feelings of others.
Marceline gets easily bored, and due to this she has got into the habit of sleeping around, hurting herself for the fun of it, drinking, opium, and several other stupid acts.

Marceline and her sister were born during the early 19th century into a well off family of a French merchant and his English wife. The family has lived in Venice for soon 25 years - for all Marceline's age and a bit longer.
Marceline proved to be a difficult child as soon as she gained any control of her body. She has fallen off beds, down stairs, out a window, into a well, off trees and from the stable's hayloft, she has burned herself on the stove more often than anyone would even like to know, she has been kicked by a horse and hit on the head with a shovel. Actually she ran into it.
However, she was also extremely cheerful (and aggressive when provoked; several of the servant's children have got a beating from her when she was a child) and content with little - only she hated being limited, and the girls' governess has got tuftfuls of gray hairs because of the girl, who after learning to be a little bit more careful with herself, started to cut herself for fun in her preteens and engage herself in other ways of self-harm when bored, and not too long after that found out that having sex was extremely fun, and after that the poor governess and the poor parents were close to locking the girl up into a tower (she would have found a way to get out though, so what'd the use have been?).
Being as she is, Marceline has been sleeping around with many men, finding herself especially popular among a certain type of men and loathed by many many women. Marceline, however, does not really care, being the careless free spirit she is.

Melisande jumps off a bridge and Marceline follows. Strangely, when Marceline drags Melisande to the surface, the girls find themselves on the yard of a Victorian house in the summer, in stead of by a Venetian channel at winter. The girls claim the house theirs, and they meet the welcoming committee of the girls from the Asylum.
